Toby is a senior gentleman at 15 years of age and has been with his owner since he was 10 weeks old. Sadly, due to changes in the owner’s work contract, Toby was being left for much longer periods than is desirable and his owner felt he would be happier if rehomed with someone at home most of the time. Toby, despite his age, is an active and alert little fellow, who still enjoys his walks. He moved to one of our lovely foster homes in Blackpool, with Deb407 and her foster girl Bella. Whilst Toby's top coat looked sleek and well groomed, sadly his undercoat and underbelly area were terribly matted, and after a good trim several lumps were discovered. A vet assessment concluded that aside from the usual warty 'old age' lumps, and a large fatty cyst on his chest, Toby also has a hard lump on his back left foot. A lump in this area is unusual, and as this is a solid lump, showing no sign of pain when squeezed, it is worrying and needs to be removed asap. At this time the lump is small enough to remove without the need for removing too much of the surrounding tissue, but if allowed to grow further could mean a more extensive operation. Toby's heart and lungs are sound, and the vet would like to proceed with the operation (and a dental) asap. Toby will remain as a Special Care Dog whilst he undergoes this operation and recovers enough to be available for rehoming. He's a lovely boy, and Debs has been surprised by how active and energetic he is for his age. 4 mile walks are a breeze for this chap! If you can spare £1 or two towards Toby's operation (the lump removal alone will cost around £200) please use the orange Donate button in the centre of the forum's home page, or ask Deb407, Girlytrude, lexi310101 or thedemonpigs how you can make a donation in another manner.
Every penny raised in Toby's name will be specifically earmarked for his care.
Thank you for reading and supporting The Little Dog Rescue

Thank you pollypocket. Toby will hopefully be having his operation one day next week. Just waiting to hear back from the vet about doing his lump removal and dental at the same time so he doesn't have to undergo a second anaesthetic....

As Deb mentioned the estimated cost of Toby's operation is £658.08. I have negotiated a charity discount which will bring the cost down to just under £600.00 - still somewhat higher than first anticipated.
Thank you so much to all of you who have made a donation towards the cost of Toby's op. So far we have raised £195.00, which is a fantastic amount.
However, we still have a long way to go so if you can spare a few pounds to help, every little really does count.
Thank you x

The vet has phoned to say Toby is through the operation and can be picked up in just over an hour! He had 10 teeth removing including both canines. The lump removal was more complicated than anticipated due to being more deeply attached to his foot. Will update later once I've got him back home. Thank you to everyone for keeping him in your thoughts. x

Little lad is back home and still very groggy from the anaesthetic and the pain medication he's been given. He has had 4 large warty growths removed, one from his thigh, one from between his eyes and two from his chest, all stitched up. He has also had the big fatty lump removed from his chest - more stitches. The solid lump on his foot was attached to the tendon and the back pad - this has been taken off and his lower leg is now well bandaged up. He has had a full dental with 10 teeth removed and the rest, following a good clean, look remarkably good for a yorkie his age. Poor Toby really does look like he has been in the wars.

Oh bless him Debs. that's a lot for any dog to go through in one hit. Give him very gentle snuggles from me, and have a big hug yourself because I know you'll have stressed all day and won't stop now just because he's home XXX

Toby slept soundly all night and is bright and alert this morning, hobbling around and waiting for his breakfast (which he can't have until after 11am due to the painkillers needing to be given at the same time). Dogs are amazing! So resilient.
