Alfie has come in from a private home this evening. The family bought him as a puppy but since the marriage break up three years ago he has been spending up to 16 hours a day alone.
It was understandably a very difficult handover for all concerned but the family want Alfie to have a better life than they can currently provide.
He was neutered two months ago but has not been vaccinated since 2006 and is not yet mircochipped.
He has been fine and showing no signs of distress in the two hours since his owner left but he is marking everywhere.
There's been quite a bit of squabbling with the other two fosters here as they attempt to establish a hierarchy, which is expected when at least two of the three were 'Top Dog' in their own homes. Nothing to be concerned about so far though.
Update after 4 days:
He's a great little dog providing there is no food around - loves to play, especially with loud, squeaky toys, but can destroy them in seconds. He's very vocal when excited or when he wants attention but this is improving now he's learning he gets more fussed over when quiet!
When food is around, he guards it ferociously so needs to be fed alone at present. His owner said "anything that falls on the floor is Alfie's", and this is proving to be exactly what Alfie believes. I was bitten just for not thinking before bending down to pick up a piece of pasta I'd dropped. If he can smell food, he'll make extreme efforts to get it, so everything needs to be kept in cupboards.
This aggression around food seems to be his only real issue that needs addressing.
In ever other way he's a loving little guy and a delight to have around.
Alfie is now reserved as he will be going to a home with view to adopt.
