Please read Pip's details carefully before deciding to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Pip came to the rescue from a private home situation when her owner's time was more taken with a new puppy. Despite Pip's excellent temperament and behaviour she was being offered on local adverts, and a rescue supporter suggested TLDR to the owner.
This delightful bundle of terrier energy has been a joy for everyone who has met her, and is now ready to find her own forever home to share her sunny personality with.
Pip is 3 years old, and a very petite JRT. She is fairly typically terrier in nature and has met a number of dogs through the rescue without issue. Pip is currently living with 5 other dogs in her foster home and she gets on great with them all, thoroughly enjoying charging round the garden. She can sometimes be a little too enthusiastic in wanting to play but a growl from one of the other dogs and also a sharp, "No", makes her walk away. She has shown no sign of aggression, is brilliant with commands and highly intelligent.
Pip does bark and become impatient to meet other dogs she sees on walks. A sharp "no" and positive reinforcement with praise or treats stops this but on going training is needed. This is not down to any aggression, simply a desire to get the other dogs to play.
She will pull a little with excitement when first setting out, but is easily corrected and walks nicely, listening to her owner's commands.
Pip is completely cat friendly, and a home with dog friendly cats would be ideal. She sees the cat in the foster home as a playmate, and plays chase with her in a friendly, non aggressive manner.
The home Pip came from had a young child, but we believe Pip was on occasion roughly handled, and although she has shown excellent behaviour around children we will not home where any resident children are younger than 8 years of age, preferably with experience and understand of appropriate behaviour towards a small and bouncy dog.
Pip is a real 'people dog' and loves everyone she meets and will greet them and her excitement leads to her jumping up to reach them as she is so tiny! loves her belly being rubbed and is a total lap dog. When the foster home has visitors she becomes very excited, but will wait for them to sit down. She loves her belly being rubbed and is a total lap dog.
Pip is a dog that bonds easily, and will happily follow you while you are gardening, or doing jobs around the house. She doesn't get under your feet, or intrude, but she likes to know where you are and just check that you're not too far from sight. This applies on walks when she is off lead also, and as a result her recall is very good.
She is incredibly bright and eager to 'do the right thing' to please you. For this reason she would make a fantastic agility dog, and is a dog who could learn a range of tricks with someone patient, kind and with the right attitude for such a happy, bright, little mind. She is immensely adaptable and would fit a range of homes.
Whilst she loves people, she does not appear to have any anxieties about being left for periods, and is crate trained, although her fosterer leaves this open for her to go in and out as she pleases. She is given a treat as the fosterer leaves and is happy to accept this. She is non destructive, and can be left for a maximum of 4 hours, although this has not been a daily occurrence. She is also not a barker, and only appears to bark if triggered by the other dogs in the home.
Pip loves her food and is happy to eat alongside another dog.
She really loves toys, although she doesn't bring them back if you throw them...the game is all about you chasing her to try and get them back, which she loves!
Pip currently sleeps upstairs in her own bed in the foster home, where she settles well.
Car journeys with Pip have only been short ones, but she has travelled very well, happily jumping in and settling down immediately.
She doesn't really like being groomed, but she will allow you to clip her nails when she is in a relaxed mood.
Pip's Foster Mum has this to add:
“ I love PIP she is my type of dog, not totally jack russel as she will share your lap without a fuss, is highly intelligent and listens to me, if I say no she will follow your command. Totally misunderstood with her bounciness as she just want to play. Needs a person who knows jack russell terriers and who will spend time reinforcing commands and training. Loves people and soon makes you her pack leader, Total lap dog and is so tiny the pics don't do justice to her. If I didn't have four she would be staying, she is a absolute delight to foster and is loved by myself and the kids, she is very precious.”
Pip is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated.
