Please read Izzy's details carefully before deciding whether or not to submit an application.
Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be contacted.
Izzy came to the rescue after being seen advertised as 'free to a good home' while in season.
Izzy is 2 years old and is a JRT cross-breed. She is currently being fostered in Mildenhall, Suffolk alongside two other dogs and a cat, all of whom she gets on great with. She is able to read the other dogs' body language, knowing when they wish to be left alone and when they will be happy to play with her. She particularly loves the resident dachshund and they will play together every evening after dinner before cuddling up together.
Izzy is completely relaxed around the fosterer's cat, quite content to curl up and sleep snuggled up to her as well as plays games of chase in the garden.
She is still very puppy-like in some ways, struggling to control her boundless enthusiasm and excitement in certain situations. This becomes especially evident on walks.
Izzy is walked twice a day for a couple of miles at a time, although she would easily be able to manage much longer distances. She finds walks such a source of pure joy it can be difficult for her to sit still long enough to have her lead attached prior to setting off and she will chew her lead in impatience if made to wait for more than a few seconds.
Once out of the door Izzy sets off at a rate of knots, pulling hard on the lead. Whilst this has improved somewhat during foster with some focussed one-to-one work, further training will definitely be required.
When she sees other dogs while out, Izzy tries desperately to get to them and say hello, crying and pulling if she is held back. If allowed to get close her excitement and joy can lead to her nipping them; while there is no aggression at all from Izzy, this undesirable behaviour will need working on with careful introductions until she learns to temper her exuberance around new dogs outside the home environment and greet them calmly.
At home Izzy's recall has been perfect but, due to the issues raised above, this has not been tested while on walks.
Izzy loves everyone she meets while out, greeting people of all ages enthusiastically. She can be very demanding of attention and will jump up at people to be given a fuss. Again, her inability to control her excitement can cause her to nip people. Although no harm is ever intended, Izzy does need to learn an 'all-four-paws-on-the-floor' approach to greeting people as these nips could be misinterpreted by those not familiar with bouncy dogs.
Izzy is a little wary and anxious of visitors to the home (her territory), especially men. She will bark initially but once she has approached, said hello and had a stroke, she can then see they will not hurt her and she relaxes around them. She loves cuddling up to people, sitting on their knee and having her belly stroked.
While Izzy has been around children in her foster home and loves those she meets when out on walks, we are looking for a home where any resident children are aged 10+ and better able to understand her occasional mouthing and bounciness.
Izzy enjoys her food and is fine being stroked while eating or having her bowl taken away. She loves treats and will sit for them when asked, as well as sit up and beg.
She is very protective of her toys and does not like to share them with the other dogs. If one of them approaches her while she is playing with a toy or even just lying next to it, she will give a warning growl and absolutely won't tolerate any attempts made by another dog to take it from her. She will however allow a human to take it without any issue.
Izzy does not like being left but copes well with it providing there is another dog for company. She has been left for several hours (uncrated) without issue so could potentially be homed with someone who works part-time providing she has a doggy companion.
She loves trips out in the car and travels well. She does, however, tend to jump round due to her excitement at being out of the house, so it would be prudent to use a car harness or a crate during longer car journeys
Izzy has been allowed to sleep on the bed with both her previous owner and her fosterer, where she sleeps throughout the night without a peep. She has never had her own bed and is not crate-trained. Ideally she would be allowed to continue sleeping with her human but if this is not acceptable, she may need some time to adjust to the new arrangements.
With regards to being bathed and brushed, Izzy does not enjoy them in the least but does tolerate both with a quiet resignation! She becomes very anxious at the prospect of having her nails clipped so this may be best left to a professional such as a vet or groomer, who can get the job done quickly.
Izzy's foster Mum has this to add:
"Please add any additional information you feel is important to know about your foster dog.
I hope me saying about her being toy protective doesnt come across as her being aggressive as she is such a softy in every other way. she has been an absolute pleasure to look after and from day one has fitted into our family and daily life, if i could afford to keep her she would without a doubt be staying with me. she will make somebody very happy, she loves to play, go for walks but also loves a good cuddle, shes quite an affectionate little girl. I dont know what her life was like before she came to me but sometimes if i move quick or have something in my hand she will crouch down in fear so i have to assure her I would never hurt her, she is really scared of the ironing board but will now stay where she is laying when i get it out, she is scared of the hoover but will now stay in the same room but keep moving to the opposite side to where the hoover is. She is housetrained but I did have quite a few accidents at the start, ive got to know when she needs to go out as she becomes very clingy and winey, its taken me time to realise that theres nothing wrong she just needs a toilet, when she did have accidents she would really cour like im going to really to tell her off, which I didnt because in her own little way she was telling me she needed to go. To sum Izzy up id say she is the lovliest little dog, she is a happy, friendly, playful and full of affection, she really just wants to be loved and then will give 110% back."
Izzy is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated.
