Please read Legolas's details carefully before deciding to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Legolas is a delightful small crossbreed who arrived in rescue with his brother Albion who is also looking for a new home. We are listing them individually as they could be homed quite easily as individuals, but we would also accept application for them to be homed together.
Legolas came to TLDR when his British owner suffered the loss of his wife, and having lived in Spain for the duration of their marriage needed to return to the UK to the support of family and friends to rebuild his life. The couple owned 12 dogs however, and he knew that in order to find a home and work he would need to find good homes for some of his pack. Having contacted all of the major, large rescues without luck he found us and we agreed to help.
Legolas is 6 years of age and has been sharing his foster home with 2 other dogs from the same original family group, Albion being one. He is an easy going chap with other dogs in the home and although does like his own space at times and tends to choose to sleep alone he happily shares food bowls.
On walks he is happy to greet other dogs, large or small. He has good recall and enjoys an off lead run. On lead he is quite strong and does pull, although this does improve after he's burned off some energy, but he would benefit from some lead training. He would not suit someone who was frail or unsteady on their legs.
Although Legolas has lived with cats in his previous home all of his life he is not living with any at the moment and is interested in those he meets when out and about, will bark at them; the same with birds that fly off in front of him in the park. We would only consider a home where resident cats were very dog savvy, and where owners had prior experience of safe and sensible introductions over a period of time.
Legolas loves meeting new people and is initially quite excited and will jump up, but he quickly calms and will then happily lay for a fuss...and would be happy to carry that on for as long as your arm can take it!
He is not however so comfortable around children, and whilst he has shown no aggression he is extremely nervous of them and shakes. For this reason will will not home where resident or visiting children are under the age of 16 yrs.
Legolas travels well in a car, is not very interested in toys (he will chase a ball but not pick it up), and can be left at home for 3-4 hours without issue, although please bear in mind this has always been with doggy company. He sleeps downstairs at night and settles with the other dogs quietly.
Legolas's coat is quite thick and needs regular grooming not to become tangled, which he enjoys and will willingly accept.
This lovely chap has been a joy to foster and his Foster Mum has this to add:
"He knows if he's been good, as with him and Albion they will sit by the cupboard waiting for the treats they get; they don't bother if they haven't . He is going to make someone a lovely companion, loves lots of cuddles".
Legolas is neutered, vaccinated including rabies, microchipped, flea and worm treated.
Summary
A home as a solo dog will be considered if Legolas will not be left for more than a couple of hours at a time
We will consider homing Legolas alone, or with his brother Albion as a pair
Very dog savvy cats considered, where owner has prior experience of sensible introductions
Resident or visiting children aged 16+
Regular active walks and a commitment to further lead training
If homed with another dog, maximum left 4 hours
