Please read Daisy's details carefully before deciding to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Daisy came to the rescue having been sold via a selling site at 12 weeks, only to be seen re-advertised for sale just a week later. A rescue contact stepped in and arranged for her to come to The Little Dog Rescue to ensure that a good home would be found and that she would always have the back-up of a rescue. We have been told that she is a Springer Spaniel X Collie, but there are no papers and we cannot verify that. She clearly has a Spaniel look to her, but is very slender and streamlined, with a gorgeous coat, fluffy ears and an incredibly long tail! Whatever the mix she is beautiful!
Daisy is sharing the foster home with a multi pack of dogs, varying in ages and breeds. She is very playful and enjoys their company, but she is also learning good doggy manners and if she is too boisterous and bouncy, she responds quickly to a warning growl or snap and simply walks away.
We suspect her training has been erratic with her moves, as she can be quite nervous about going for walks on lead, she isn't keen. However, with encouragement she will walk, and has good lead behaviour. She is also not reactive to dogs she meets when out, even those that bark at her. She would benefit from further lead work to build her confidence and ensure a solid steady walking style without pulling as she gets bigger.
Daisy has shown no malice to the resident cat and will try to play with or lick it, so we would consider a home with a dog savvy cat and sensible introductions. She has not experienced small furries.
As with most puppies Daisy loves people because people mean fuss, cuddles, play-time and treats! She can be very bouncy with excitement though and will need further training with this. She is used to children and we would consider homing where children are aged 5+ and have previous experience around playful young dogs and know how to behave sensibly.
Daisy has very good recall in and around the home, she knows her name and responds well to it. She is extremely well behaved around her food, toys and treats, showing no possessive behaviours and allowing toys to be taken from her without issue.
She is not keen on car travel and will moan or whine every so often. Many puppies find the motion of a car unsettling but most grow out of this between 6-12 months, and can be helped with regular short trips.
In the foster home Daisy has been left for up to 3 hours in a puppy pen or crate, where she enjoys munching on a hoof or other hard chew. She does not exhibit any signs of distress, but please remember that she is a puppy and puppies often go through a chewing stage.
At night Daisy sleeps in her own bed upstairs where her Foster Mum can keep an ear out for any sign that she may need to toilet. However, she is exceptionally well house-trained and goes through the night clean and dry. She loves being groomed, but does see it as a game!
Daisy's Foster Mum has this to say about her:
"Daisy is a very playful pup , is eager to learn, knows sit and stay. Very good with recall. Very gentle and submissive with other dogs. Totally toilet trained. Will make a superb companion, needs lots of stimulation or another dog which will play in the house. She has been a real pleasure to foster and will be sorely missed by us all."
Daisy is microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated. She is not spayed due to her age, and will be homed under a Spay Agreement. Her new owners will be responsible for ensuring she is spayed at the appropriate time, and evidence from a vet to confirm this is required (and will be followed up).
Along with the Spay Agreement, a commitment to attending training classes form part of the Adoption Agreement.
Summary
An active home with the time and energy to commit to the training needs of a puppy (please remember this commitment could be for 15 yrs or more)
Children aged 5+ with sensible doggy manners
Dog savvy cats are possible
No full-time working homes (maximum left 3 hrs)
Another playful but well trained dog would be an advantage for Daisy to learn from
