Please read Mojo's details carefully before deciding whether to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be contacted.
Mojo is one of three Chihuahuas who came to The Little Dog Rescue after being dumped before Christmas. He had clearly come from a breeding situation and had we believe lived in a situation where knowledge of the outside world and experiences were limited, leading to a lack of confidence, fear of lead-walking and no house-training. He will need a patient and stable home willing to commit to long-term training needs.
Mojo is believed to be around 2-3 years of age, and has been sharing a foster home with several other small breed dogs. His past history as we believe a stud dog means that he can be over interested in females, even now that he is neutered, but he will stop if put in his place by a strong female character. He enjoys the company of other dogs and we would like to see him homed with at least one other active and playful young small breed dog. He seems to enjoy the company of other friendly males as easily as females.
Outside of the home he greets dogs he meets on walks just as comfortably, showing no fear of them. He does sometimes become vocal, but tends to follow the lead of the other dogs he is with, if they bark he joins in! And considering this little lad had never seen a collar or lead before he now loves his walks and has great recall too.
Whilst Mojo has not actively lived with cats he has met a few and not shown any real interest. If they were to ignore him we feel he would ignore them. He is not an aggressive dog, and would be unlikely to stand his ground if spat and hissed at. However we would only consider a home with cats if they were very used to dogs, non reactive and the home had prior experience of making such introductions slowly and with all sensible precautions.
Mojo is very excitable when meeting new people. He loves fuss and attention, although can be a bit licky and loves getting right up close, so if you don't like licky dogs then Mojo isn't the one for you. He's a little love bug! Mojo has had contact with teenagers but not young children and for this reason we will not home him where resident or visiting children are under the age of 15.
He loves his food, treats and toys, but can be a tad possessive over bones. He is learning that not everything belongs to him but this is a process still needing work.
Mojo can be safely left for a few hours with a doggy pal, and for short periods on his own. He has puppy pads down for toileting as he is not yet 100% house-trained. He has made great improvements with this, but will still have accidents overnight, or when left for a few hours, and will still scent mark anything new coming into the house, so care must be taken not to place handbags on the floor!
He travels well in the car, and although he doesn't love baths he will tolerate one because the towel dry and cuddle afterwards are the best!
Mojo's Foster Mum has this to say about him:
"Mojo is a lovely tiny dog, he has quite long legs and can move like a rocket! Very fast and agile, high energy, fearless excitable and agile. He is ALWAYS HAPPY! Bouncing and wagging are what he does best! He loves company of people or dogs, can be demanding for attention, jumping up and down giving a little bark, this can be upsetting to other dogs who are not willing to play! He will need a bit of work to get him 100% housetrained, he does have the tendency to tiddle on things that are new to the room, but as he is young he should learn quite easily. He will need walks and stimulation. He eats well, and in the company of other dogs, the only thing I have seen any possessiveness over is chews or bones, he needs to learn that he is not in charge of the bones! He is the happiest dog I have ever met, and loves to snuggle on a sofa with you, or lay on his back on your lap or in your arms. He spends a lot of time with Dexter (another foster Chi), and sleeps happily with him in the kitchen at night. Ideally to be homed with someone who is home most of the time."
Mojo is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, flea and worm treated. On admission he had an emergency vet check due to the nature of the situation in which he and the other 2 dogs were found. During this check the vet felt there may be a slight clicking in one rear knee joint. However subsequent checks have failed to detect this, but it is our policy to mention it. He is in all respects fit and well and certainly has shown no difficulties running or jumping.
