but like some of the posts I've read, I am having some problems with Cooper marking. So I am crate-training him but that is sooooooo hard. I was hoping he and the landlords pup upstairs would be buddies and they are to an extent but Cooper marks his territory whenever Bambi is around or has been.
He goes outside and potties pretty much on command. I reward him every, single time with a tiny treat. Then I reward him when I have to put him in the crate if we are going byebye or if I am working at my computer and can't watch him constantly. I don't give him free run of the house anymore because of the marking. I've used Nature's Miracle and it's worked wonderfully so no more odor etc.
I do wonder if I will always have to crate him and that be his "place"? I had a little female 15 years and she never needed to stay in a crate. Cooper also cries when I have to leave to attend a class etc. I can't always take him in the truck if it is too hot or cold and only for short jaunts.
Feedback welcome. Cooper is just now 3 and we are very bonded. I have really only one problem which is the marking. When I leave and he cries, I have no way of knowing if he cries the whole time. I suspect he doesn't because his food is always eaten, LOL! He can't cry and eat at the same time;)
Denise and Cooper PS I have had him 2 months only and he came from a cramped apt. full of 15 dogs. He was the last to find a home from the Saving Grace shelter near where I live. They didn't know much more then that about him but safe to say he had no individual attention or love before I got him.
