Please read Dylan's details carefully before deciding to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Dylan came into the rescue with a companion but their needs have been quite different and it has been decided to home them separately to ensure each receives the best home suited to their individual requirements. Dylan still has a way to go in his rehabilitation, so please be sure you are in a position to commit to his ongoing training before submitting an application.
Prior to coming into rescue Dylan has never left the home, not known a collar or lead, not been walked and had only ever experienced the garden or toileting on pads indoors. The world is a whole new experience for him and steps have been taken slowly to allow him to gain confidence at a pace he feels safe with.
Dylan is a 7 year old Chihuahua, currently in a foster home in Norfolk with several small breed dogs with whom he has overcome his initial nervousness and mingles well. He can still be cautious of other dogs on walks, and will hide behind his human or ask to be picked up. Being on a lead is an entirely new experience, and whilst he was gaining confidence in the fine weather, since the bad weather began he has regressed somewhat, so this is work that will need to continue in a new home with patience, kindness and in a positive manner.
He is sharing the foster home with cats, and if alongside other cat friendly dogs he ignores them, but will follow other dogs' lead, so if they chase, he chases. A home with dog friendly cats, and cat friendly dogs would therefore be considered.
Dylan's experience of people and the world has been very limited, and he has only experienced children in a very limited setting, the youngest being 8 years. Whilst he coped with this well as he enjoys cuddles and fuss, he is a nervous dog and unused to the hustle and bustle of a busy family home. For this reason we will not consider homes with children under 12 years, or with multiple children where regular visiting children are likely. This increased noise and attention is likely to be too stressful for Dylan.
He does however enjoy meeting new people because new people means more fuss and cuddles. He is quite happy to go up to people both indoors or out and about. In the house he will plonk himself on anyone's lap as soon as they sit down whether he knows them or not and will not budge!
Dylan likes to play with toys and enjoys treats, he travels well in a car and can be left for short periods although in the foster home he has the company of other dogs, and we would prefer to home where he will be with at least one other friendly, placid and confident dog to guide and encourage him to become more confident with the world around him.
His recall is very good and in the park off lead he always returns to his name. He enjoys being groomed and accept nail clipping too.
His foster had this to add:
"When Dylan first arrived he was very nervous, since mixing with the other dogs he has really come out of himself & he no longer follows me where ever I go. Dylan isn't house trained, he was doing really well but when the weather changed he refused to go out; even if I put him out he'd come straight back in. Recently he has been going out for a poo but then comes in and wees on puppy pads. Dylan has been an absolute delight to have, he loves to have doggy company but also loves to be cuddled."
Dylan is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated.
Summary
No children under 12 years, no more than 2 resident children who must be dog sensible
A home with another confident, well socialised, friendly dog
Could be homed with dog friendly cats
New owner must commit to Dylan's ongoing training and socialising in a positive, reward based programme
No full-time working homes
