Please read Baxter and Brandi's details carefully before deciding to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Baxter and Brandi came to TLDR through no fault of their own following changes in their owner's situation. Baxter was originally homed by TLDR 4 years ago.
This delightful pair are being homed together, although have quite different personalities.
Baxter & Brandi get on well with other dogs of all sizes, at home, out on walks on the lead and off the lead. Baxter appears unbothered about the presence of other dogs generally, whereas Brandi is interested and friendly but not to the point of annoying the other dog.
The pair have been sharing the foster home with cats, and whilst they will chase, neither intend any harm, and are easily corrected and reminded to 'be nice'. It's the thrill of the chase, so if a cat races by, they like to chase, but if they were to corner a cat, they would not know what to do then!
Baxter always gives visitors a friendly hello by barking. Once told that the visitor is ok he settles back down quickly and goes back to doing his own thing, only seeking out attention from them when they have been there for a good while. Brandi initially greets people with a friendly & excited bark, she will then fairly quickly investigate strangers and look for attention from them. She will try and lick faces if given the chance, but is quick to click on to those who don’t like her to do so. Both dogs are comfortable meeting new people, and enjoy the attention this brings. They see teenagers as just more 'big people', but Baxter is less sure with children. Brandi accepts children of around 6 years and upwards, but Baxter becomes quite withdrawn and unsure around them so for this reason we will only consider homes with children aged 15+.
Neither dog has shown much interest in toys.
BAXTER
Baxter loves his food though, and if he knows you're a soft touch will do his meerkat impression to tempt you to share your dinner with him. If he learns that you're not the sharing type however he won't bother you at mealtimes. Brandi eats at a slower pace and needs to be given time to finish, ideally fed away from Baxter so that he doesn't help her finish Both enjoy cheese, meaty treats, and Baxter will also eat dog biscuits. Brandi is not a fan of hard treats.
Baxter and Brandi haven't really been left alone for more than 15 minutes and on returning he appears not to have issue at you having been away. Sometimes, when you're still in the house, but in another room or upstairs he will howl until you let him know where you are - he very much likes to be with a human all the time. If you leave a room then Brandi like to follow and is happiest when she is able to be by your side all of the time.
Baxter knows his name and responds to it, but his nervousness means that he will only come so close to you - and not close enough to touch him. The more he learns he can trust you them closer he comes (after about a week his is now allowing me to take ahold of his collar when I call him to me). If you call Baxter to a chair or bench and ask him to get up on it he is happy to oblige and then has no issue with you touching him, taking his collar or even picking him up. Brandi responds well to her name and responds to it, she is keen to return to you as long as there isn’t a very interesting smell that needs to continue to be investigated - in such a case you need to call her a few more times before she responds. Brandi doesn't mind being picked up and loves to be on your lap when possible.
BRANDI
Brandi is too small to really pull on the lead, but if she was bigger she definitely would - she is so keen to explore new smells . She likes to stop at every lamp post, tree or corner and make her mark - she is very ‘dog-like’ in this respect. Baxter tends to hurry to keep up with Brandi’s fast pace on the lead when out for a walk. When out & about generally Baxter appears to gain some comfort and security for being on the lead, becoming a little more confident with it on rather than without it in social situations.
Both dogs takes travelling in their stride, being generally settled and calm. During journeys Brandi does sometimes pant (not due to thirst or heat).
Baxter gives the impression of not really enjoying being groomed, he will put up with it and will allow you to bath him and brush him without objecting - but he’s happy when it’s done! Brandi is well behaved and patient when being groomed - a bath or brush is attention afterall!
Their fosterer had this to add:
"Baxter was pretty flighty and skittish when he first arrived, but he is much less so after just over a week. He seems to thrive on peace & quiet, routine and consistency and I have no doubt that his fear will all but disappear once he is settled in the right environment. Brandi has a very amiable character and is generally pretty easy going, she loves attention but is happy to share this with Baxter as long as she isn’t excluded. She was quick to settle in her foster placement and has attached to me very quickly - she would really like a human of her own that she can keep!"
Both dogs are vaccinated and microchipped, Baxter is neutered and Brandi is spayed. Both are healthy, although Brandi may need some dental attention in the foreseeable future and for this reason a reduced adoption fee is in place.
Summary
No children under 15 years
A home where someone is at home most of the time
Could be homed with another placid, friendly small dog but not a large pack
New owner must commit to ensuring Brandi's dental hygiene is monitored
Dog savvy cats are possible
