Please read Winnie's details carefully before submitting an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Winnie is a beautiful senior lady of around 12 years of age and very Whippety in looks although believed to have something else mixed in there, quite what we're not sure. However, don't let her age deter you, she's an active and lively girl who amazed even the vets with just how fit and well she is.
This pretty lady is currently sharing my home with 6 other dogs and has proven to be generally comfortable around other dogs, both in and outside of the home. She will growl at them if they invade her personal space, but as she is one of the smallest here that's forgiven. Her closest companion has been Tessa, the young female JRT, and their lively games of chase and play-fighting prove what energy Winnie has. However, as much as Winnie does enjoy the company of another friendly and playful dog, she would also relish being the only dog in a home where someone was at home all day to cuddle and adore her; she is immensely affectionate and would happily spend all day on the sofa snuggling if she had a human to do that with and can occasionally show jealousy although is easily corrected.
Winnie can be a little pully on a lead which causes her to cough and is best walked on a harness, but is quite easily managed and settles nicely once the initial excitement has calmed. She has not been let off lead whilst in the foster home as we are surrounded by open moors rather than enclosed fields.
Cats in the home would be completely safe with Winnie, she is disinterested in them and would happily share a sofa. She adores people and would comfortably fit into most homes, although can be startled by sudden noises and quick movements, so a home where resident or visiting children were over 8 years and sensible around dogs please.
Winnie does have a dislike of the cold, wet and dark weather and has to be actively encouraged to go outside for a wee, so you must be prepared to go into the garden with her for those late evening toilet trips or be prepared for indoor accidents. With lots of encouragement she will toilet, and then dash back indoors to the sofa and the warm!
Winnie has acute hearing and can be reactive to sudden noises, causing her to bark in response. If left alone for long periods, this can become an issue for neighbours, so we are looking for a home where someone is present for much of the day and has the time to spend offering 2 walks a day, play and cuddles. The barking is easily stopped with focus and distraction, and only becomes an issue if Winnie was to be left repeatedly, so no working homes please unless you work from home or can take your dog to work
When not cuddling or playing with the other dogs, Winnie is content to spend her time buried in a quilt, curled into the tiniest ball as this breed are so capable of doing. She is a beautiful champagne colour (photos really do not do her justice).
Winnie has just been spayed, had a dental and the removal of a mammary lump. She also had a blood test prior to the anaesthetic and the vets were very impressed with how 'normal' all of her readings were for a dog believed to be around 12 years of age. She really is rather special and has been a lovely girl to foster.
