Please read Foxy's details carefully before deciding whether he is the right little dog for you.
This delightful little chap has been an absolute gem in his foster home, and is now looking for a forever home where he can share that love with a new family.
Foxy is around 8 years of age and a terrier crossbreed. He came to us from a private home in very sad circumstances and his previous owner did a wonderful job of giving him a great start after rescuing him herself just a year before. He has clearly been very loved and that shows in his impeccable manners.
He is currently in a foster home in Wigan, sharing that home with a pack of 4 resident and other foster dogs of various sizes and breeds in complete harmony. He loves a game of tuggy with the other dogs, and gets involved in doggy play sessions easily, enjoying their company, so we would happily consider a home with another active and friendly companion. He also greets other dogs on walks in a polite and friendly manner.
Whilst excellent with other dogs, Foxy does need a cat and small furry free home, he is a typical terrier with those, but his excellent temperament more than makes up for this minor flaw
Foxy has been very well behaved around children aged 13 and 14 and will greet all new humans with a friendly face, so we would consider homes with children aged 8+ who are doggy sensible.
Foxy loves his food, toys and treats, but is never possessive with these. He will happily play ball or tuggy with you all day, or will take himself off and play alone, or with another dog. He travels well in a car, jumping in willingly and settling quickly. He can also be left for periods alone, is not a barker or destructive.
Foxy does pulls a little at first on a lead but soon settles once the lead is extended and trots along nicely. Sometimes he will stop if unsure of an object if he is being walked around town. A little gentle coaxing normally does the trick if you show him there is nothing to fear. His recall at home or in the garden is 100%, but on a walk still needs some work...he's a typical inquisitive terrier!
He enjoys being brushed, and although he hasn't needed a bath in the foster home, his foster Mum suspects he'd been fine with this and says "he is a very laid back friendly boy who is very easy to handle."
When Foxy arrived in foster he had a persistent cough which he has had ever since his previous owner homed him a year before from a pound. Frequent vet visits had never established a cause, and a trial of steroids was given to see if this improved the cough. As this made no significant difference this treatment was discontinued. Foxy only coughs after a drink of cold water, or a run around, and it tends to be just one or two coughs, which don't cause him a problem in any way. It is possible he has some lung scarring from an old illness in his 'youth', and in later life this may need treatment but at this time the vet is happy that he does not need any treatment or further investigation.
He also has the typical "Terrier Hop" which could make you think he has hurt one of his back legs. This is a common trait in terriers, and he no issues with his back legs whatsoever. He is very active and mobile and has no problem running or playing with the other dogs in the foster home.
Foxy's foster Mum had this to say about him:
"I think he'd fit into almost any household as he is such a friendly, playful, laid back little boy who loves to play and loves his people, and is a proper little snuggle monster. He loves his toys and will play all day with a ball. He has been very clean in the house and quiet at night when left downstairs. He is no trouble whatsoever and soon settled when he came to me and has happily lived alongside the 4 other dogs here. He has been one of the easiest dogs I've had here. He just needs work on his recall and basic training. We will miss the little guy!"
Summary:
Could be homed with another active, playful dog.
No cats or small furries
Children aged 8+
Part-time working homes considered
Foxy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated.
