Special Girl Needing Special Home! **Lucy is an absolute sweetheart, but we are looking for a very specific home, so please read her information thoroughly and only apply if you feel you could meet her needs.**TLDR were contacted by Lucy's current owner (and saviour) for help ensuring she finds a perfect home due to her very special circumstances. Her owner had spotted her being sold on Gumtree, and having been involved in Chihuahua rescue in the USA, she recognised that this tiny puppy was not just far too small to be homed, but had obvious medical needs. At just 225grams at 9 weeks old, a misshapen head, bulging eyes and seizures Jenny knew these were all signs of hydrocephalus. Jenny bought the puppy to ensure a chance of survival. Jenny began a routine of 4 hourly feeds, supplemented with a high calorie gel. This tiny one couldn't even eat or drink independently. Jenny has had Lucy now 7 weeks and Lucy has thrived. She has been seizure free for 5 weeks (although she is written up for Keppra as a precaution) and is feeding regularly and drinking on her own. Her family are due to return to the States in April/May and as Lucy cannot be vaccinated yet due to her low body weight, and is not strong enough to make that journey, Jenny has asked for help to find a very special home. Lucy is just over 1/2 pound in weight now, and the vet has advised no vaccinations until she is a year old. She will therefore need to find a home that is 'indoor/garden' only with no contact with unknown dogs. She is learning to use a puppy pad for toileting, and is a typical playful, feisty little Chi girl, adoring her playtimes with Jenny's own 3 yr old Chi. However, she will always be smaller and more delicate than most other dogs and we are therefore looking for a home with either a very placid, tiny Chi companion or no dogs, no cats or children, and where her new Mum will be her constant companion. Lucy does have hydrocephalus and there is a treatment that can alleviate some of the symptoms which is available in the UK but quite expensive. Jenny will provide information about this to a new owner. She has the typical goggle eyes and she has some balance issues. But she has already learned to climb up the stairs just not down. In typical puppy form she has no fear. She is currently not on any medication. Lucy's lifespan is unlikely to be as long as a dog without hydrocephalus. Jenny has this to say about Lucy: Lucy is absolutely amazing! She is the funniest little thing with the heart of a lion. She wears the pants around the house already squeaking when she wants up on the couch or in the big bed. She loves to carry around her favorite lovely a little stuffed bird (my other chihuahua tore the leg off but Lucy doesn't mind she always goes back for it!) She loves to eat what I am cooking in typical Chihuahua fashion she can love her food one meal and simply refuse it the next. If I am cooking chicken or rice or egg I always give her some and she gobbles it up. She also loves the dehydrated duck and chicken bites. Lucy and my Chihuahua Mae West are already very attached they snuggle and play and are never apart. Lucy would love the affection of another small dog but would not do well with small breeds that are strong and rowdy as she is just so tiny. Don't get me wrong she and my Chi wrestle and Lucy gets rolled a lot, she holds her on usually getting mad and biting for real. (Which of course doesn't even phase my five pound Chi girl, but is a riot to watch. Still seizure free without any meds! In summary, we will only consider homes that meet the following criteria:
A full secure garden where Lucy can enjoy playtimes with no risk of encountering other dogs, with no tiny gaps in or under fencing.
A home with either a tiny placid Chi companion, or no dogs
No cats
No children
Someone at home most of the time
An awareness of Lucy's long-term needs and possible medical input.
Please meet this very beautiful girl and see the progress she has made: If you are interested in adopting Lucy please complete our online adoption form here:
www.littledogrescue.co.uk/PreAdoption.html
and someone will give you a call as soon as possible.

LittleLucyBug - firstly well done you for all you have done/are doing for this special lil' girl - you really have been her Earth Angel. I read and saw the pictures of her, and (as the team here know!) fell in love with her 'from afar' - I live in Suffolk. My household would be far too busy for her - I have 4 dogs, and rescue cats - so not ideal. However, I know of a special local lady who would simply adore her. When I spoke to her today about her, she was set to travel to see her this afternoon! I have given this lady's contact numbers to Clare, and hopefully contact can be made. She is already phoning her Vets to discuss ongoing care and the full details of Lucy's condition 'just incase she is lucky' and can be her new Mum. She would be with Lucy 24/7 - in her words, 'she would be my constant friend'.

SARS that does sound great for Lucy to have a constant companion. She is a tiny little princess. She will need a vilegent eye to make sure she is eating which in the mornings may consist on hand feeding or trying server things with an upturned nose. Lucy is so loving and loves to cuddle up on your and sleep, especially in the big bed! Lucy is learning to fetch her little toys and loves to chase things around. She tiny growl sounds like a wind up toy. She is so precious to us.

Any news about Little Lucy ? If, for any reason, Sars' friend is not able to adopt her, I know of another Chi in need of lots of care and attention that I would love to tempt her with but I am holding back as I don't want to do anything to interfere with this adoption if it is going through.

There are multiple applications for Lucy which we're working through. Some may be unsuitable but all will be contacted before a final decision is made. Hopefully there will be a decision made over the weekend

I am happy to announce that after discussions with Lucy's owner regarding applications, Lucy is now reserved. The applications received which were unsuccessful either did not meet the stated criteria, or were not contactable. However these may be suitable for another dog and we would be happy to consider you should you wish to reapply for another more suited.

Lucy's new mommy came all the way to North Yorkshire yesterday to pick up our little love bug. Even though it breaks our hearts to not be able to bring Lucy to America with us we are happy that she has found a special home with not only humans that will love her but hopefully a fur brother that will kept her far and safe with lots of snuggles and kisses. Thank yous to everyone involved Claire and SARS for recommending her new home! Look forward to pictures and updates as well.
