We are looking for a very special home for this very special girl, so please read her details carefully...
Lizzie is a gorgeous 11 month old Jackapoo (that's a Jack Russell x Poodle) who did not have a great start in life and will need an experienced and committed forever home.
Lizzie's foster home have worked wonders and begun Lizzie's process of recovery but she does have ongoing training and rehabilitation needs. She is with her foster family in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Lizzie accepts the other dogs within the foster home but can be reactive to new dogs she meets on walks. We would consider homing where there was an older, calm and confident dog for Lizzie to learn from, although initially Lizzie would be best walked separately while she gains confidence and a bond in her new owner.
Whilst Lizzie is happy to live with dogs, when on a walk she finds strange dogs too exciting and will scream and spin. It takes a lot of work to get her out of this, so she is best walked alone. So a calm and confident canine house mate is essential if she is not to revert to her previous behaviours. New owners must also expect her to be challenging at first as she learns to trust and learns the house rules.
As Lizzie is very hunt orientated she cannot be homed with cats or small furries, and as she needs a calm household with a regular routine we would also not home with young children, or where the household is busy with frequent visitors.
Lizzie loves her toys and treats, and will settle for a car journey after initial excitement. She can also be left for short periods at home, crated, and settles after a few minutes, although she is always left with canine company while in foster.
Although Lizzie generally likes people she does like to be the one to make the first approach, not the other way around.
Lizzie is looking for a family who can be firm but fair and consistent and can offer reassurance and ongoing training to help her overcome her anxieties. She was not socialised and received no training until she came into rescue, so the big wide world is one full of new experiences which she can find daunting and distressing. Lizzie's foster Mum, with support from a behaviourist, has already made a fantastic start and Lizzie is learning to trust humans, enjoy walks without reacting with constant fear to noises, traffic, people and so on, and is starting to enjoy being a dog!
There is still a long way for Lizzie to go though, and she does still have triggers for fear and anxiety which she can display by barking or spinning on the lead.
A new home would ideally be close to Huddersfield for ongoing support and careful introductions, but if an ideal, experienced home came forward we would consider homing further afield.
Lizzie's foster Mum has more information about her and will be along shortly to answer any questions you have.
Lizzie is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.
If you are interested in adopting Lizzie please message Admin with your name and contact number (landline if possible) and one of our staff team will call you to take further details.
