Alfie spent the 1st year of his life tied to a rope in a garden, thankfully he was rescued by his previous owner and has spent 3 happy years with him until recently his owners failing health meant that Alfie was no longer getting the walks he loved.
Alfie has been sharing his foster home with two female spaniels. He is a happy, affectionate and loving boy but at times has found their play to be a too boisterous so he will be looking for a home as an only dog or with a calm companion who is happy to potter around with him rather than play.
Alfie has lots of love to give and will roll on his back for belly rubs. If he wants to come up on your lap he will sit up and beg and look at you with his beautiful brown eyes and he is very hard to resist! Squeaky toys are Alfie's favourite and he will play chase with them or a game of tug of war.
Alfie loves to get out and about as much as he can, walks are his favourite time of day and he gets very excited at signs you are going out. He does pull to begin with as it is all so exciting for him. When meeting other dogs he will pull towards them and is happy for a quick sniff to say hello and then is ready to move on. He is adaptable to any kind of routine and he just as happy to go for a short walk as he is to walk for miles. His recall around the house and garden is good but he has not been let off lead. In the car he prefers to travel on the front seat so he can look out of the window but also can travel in a crate in the back. He likes to 'sing' a little now and then just incase you forget he is there.
Alfie likes to meet new people. In his excitement he may rush to jump on visitors laps and then realise he is not so confident as he thinks he is. He will occasionally grumble at new people in this situation but given a calmer and less rushed meeting this improves.
Alfie's love of people extends to children too. He is sharing his foster home with 3 children and although he has been very good around them he has also occasionally grumbled when he has had enough attention.
Alfie likes to be groomed and will let you check his teeth, ears and feet with no problems. However he is not keen on being picked up and will use his grumble to warn you he is not happy although over time his fosterer has gained his trust and is now able to pick him up without issue.
Overnight Alfie settles soundly in his crate downstairs and sleeps well.
During the day he is currently left for 2 hours, he will cry but is not destructive. He has been left for longer occasionally.
Alfie does not like cats.
Alfie is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and flea and worm treated.
