Please read Bella's details carefully before deciding to submit an application. Applications which do not meet the criteria will not be considered.
Bella came to the rescue after the death of her female owner, and Dad not being at home often enough to feel able to maintain the kind of attention and bond Bella had previously had with Mum. He had asked his vet for help and as it is a vet we have a good working relationship with they arranged to take her in and undertake the spay, dental and mammary lump removal she needed prior to her moving to her foster home, so that there was as little disruption for Bella as possible.
Little Bella has clearly had an excellent home and a good upbringing. She is very well behaved, and accepts other dogs in the home without a fuss. Whilst she doesn't particularly interact with them, preferring to do her own thing, she shows no malice or ill will. On walks, she is equally affable, greeting other dogs politely and happily.
Although the foster home does not have cats, those that Bella has met out on walks she has done so with no reaction, and we feel she could possibly live with dog savvy cats if the owner has managed such introductions previously.
Bella meets and greets everyone with her same enthusiasm and affection. She loves people because people love her! She bonds quickly, and in just a few days was visually seeking out her foster Mum in a group. She is nicely behaved with children of all ages, but please be aware that she is entering the later years of her life where age related sight and hearing loss may occur, which can have a tendency to lead to reduced tolerance. For this reason we would suggest that resident children are aged at least 6 yrs and over.
During her life in her previous home Bella was a fussy eater and was a little spoiled in that area, being fed cooked chicken every day. This sadly did not help her dental health, and her foster Mum is trying to encourage her to try other foods. She will try a little rice and veg, and has just started eating a little 'small breed' kibble! She is not interested in treats or toys however.
Bella loves to go out. She will come and put her paw on you to let you know it's time for a walk, and is still spritely and can walk a fair distance. She gets very excited when you get her lead and dances about like a puppy. Bella walks nicely on lead. Her recall has not been tested, although she does not wander or become distracted when on the lead.
When travelling in the car Bella does prefer to be on somebody's knee rather than in a crate, but enjoys the journey and is not travel sick. She is not keen on being left at home but can be left for short periods as long as she has had a walk to settle her down before leaving.
Bella has a very thick double coat, and will need daily brushing to keep it in tangle free condition. She would also benefit from an occasional trip to the groomer for a pampering session including nails and a tidy up. She does not mind being brushed.
This little girl has been a delight, and her foster Mum has this to add:
"Bella does not look or act her age. She loves her walks and will paw at you if you try to skip them. She is house trained and sleeps all night in her own bed in the bedroom. She can jump on the sofa and does love to give you kisses on your nose. Bella has been the perfect house guest."
Bella is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated.
Summary:
A home with other small, friendly dogs is possible, although Bella would be just as happy as the only dog
A home with dog savvy cats may be possible
Sensible children aged 6 years and above only
A home where Bella will be allowed to sleep in her bed in your bedroom
An active home where she will still receive regular walks
