UPDATE 22nd June 2013: Bosco has moved to spend some time with a behaviourist working on his issues with other dogs in the hope that he may be able to overcome some of his angst, and be happier in a multi-dog situation. We will keep you updated on his progress.
Applications are still welcomed, and we will put you in touch with the behaviourist for a full discussion.
We will re-write or update this homing information as appropriate, so please check back for progress reports
Bosco was originally a poundie who came to TLDR in December 2010 and was homed in June 2011. Sadly Bosco was returned to us a year later, reportedly due to dog aggression issues and toileting in the house. He has been reassessed and although he does show dominance around an equally dominant male, the toileting has not presented itself as a problem in the foster home.
He returned to his original fosterer initially, but the nature of her current dogs and other commitments made it difficult to offer Bosco the one to one attention so he was moved to a fosterer in Stowmarket with more time and a quieter home.
Bosco is generally good with other dogs, displaying an aloof manner and not really interested in them unless they are dominant males.
He's a typical terrier and will try to show dominance if he feels he can. A non reactive dog that simply ignores him and walks away is accepted, however one which reacts or tries to dominate him would cause a problem. However, even in scuffles with other males, there have been no injuries, it's all terrier 'grrrr' and attitude! He will need an owner who is firm but fair to ensure Bosco understands his place in the home.
His previous foster home has 7 other dogs (male & female and varying sizes) and he was well behaved with all except one dominant large breed male. In his current foster home he is happily sharing with a sedate and friendly female, and whilst a little aloof at first he has recently been trying to instigate play.
For this reason we would consider homing with a submissive female, or an older placid dog.
Bosco is a very affectionate little lad, quick to bond and very devoted to his human. He has adapted to the changes he has recently gone through quickly, being more concerned in ensuring he knows where 'his' person is and he thrives on routine.
The reported issues of toileting indoors (primarily the upstairs bedrooms) have not occurred in the foster home, and we believe that this is due to a calmer, structured environment, and perhaps the fact that it is a bungalow, so there is no 'upstairs'. It may have been related to a connection he had with the young children in his previous home, and for this reason although Bosco is wonderfully behaved around children, we would only consider homing where resident children are aged 12 or over.
Bosco is a gentle boy, even with cats, but he is on continual alert watching for them to move, play, run etc. He means them no harm but is highly excited by their presence, wanting to play, so again we are looking for a home with no cats or small furries.
He loves his walks and will need an active home where he will receive at least 2 good walks a day. He is a little strong on lead, and his recall needs some work. These were not such an issue previously, so it is simply a case of reminding him of things he knew before.
Bosco travels well in a car, even for long journeys, and would make an ideal companion dog for a courier or similar.
Bosco is a delightful dog as his fosterer will confirm. He has been a favourite of everyone who has met him and in the right home will be a perfect companion.
Previous terrier experience would be beneficial, and a willingness to work with his confidence building. He will need a home where someone is around for a large part of the day, but can be left for up to 2 hours. He will bark at first but does eventually settle.
In summary, we are looking for:
If you have any questions please ask.
Bosco is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, and up to date with flea and worm treatment.
